Introduction to Metsola

Trees in a Finnish archipelago landscape at dusk

Metsola — a Finnish word for the “land of forests” — is a meeting place for people interested in nature, philosophy and religion.

Its main emphasis is on naturalistic pantheism and neopagan world views that interpret divine myths in symbolic and natural terms. Metsola also looks more broadly at the relationships and differences between religions, including from the perspective of religious studies.

The editorial idea

Metsola offers a publishing place for people who

  • want their writing to become part of a larger, complementary whole,
  • want a visual and varied setting for their work, and
  • want their work to be visible on the web.

Contributors do not need to know how to build web pages: the editor can format and, when appropriate, illustrate their articles. Metsola is developed through voluntary work.

Background

Metsola was founded in late summer 1998. The web publication received and linked articles about nature religions and pagan traditions, including Wicca, Asatru, shamanism and druidism, as well as open-minded and pluralist philosophy of religion.

The site is a historical collection. Older texts reflect the time in which they were written and will be brought into the renewed presentation gradually.
